The first thing we did was buy tickets to take a tour boat ride down the river on the riverwalk. The ride was a lot of fun. We had seats at the front of the boat, so we had a perfect view of everything!
As we floated along the river, our tour guide filled our heads with fun facts about the riverwalk. He was funny too, as he cracked jokes...at one point he talked about the irish tradition of kissing the blarney stone, but in San Antonio, he said there was a plant that he encouraged people to touch because "it could change your life," as he veered the boat close enough for the people in the front of the boat (including Kayli) to reach it. He said "Go ahead, reach out and grab a leaf!" Then, as everyone got their chance to touch the plant, he continued "Yes, the poison ivy plant can change your life dramatically for at least a couple of weeks, ha ha!"
After the boat ride, we spent a couple hours just exploring the riverwalk, finding all kinds of things to stop for...
it was an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL day, PERFECT for taking in all this ambience!
Don't worry, though, in between all this ambience we managed to find some fabulous little gift shops that draw us in like bees to honey! In fact, there was a section of the riverwalk, we came upon, that was called LaVillita, that was a "little town" of it's own, filled with shops, cafes, more ambience...
Kayli loves maps, so she held on to the map and kept saying "ok, so the map says we need to go up here, then back here, then over to here" as she pointed to random spots on her map. My navigation skills are just a smidgeon better than that! Eventually I can get us back to the point we started. My exploration adventures almost always include something "off the beaten path!"
...time to use those "map skills" and climb the steps up to the city streets where we will find our way to the Children's Museum. Typical, downtown scene, with lots of traffic, people, lights, buses, pan-handlers, lots to watch...and watch-out for...as we made our way to our destination...
Kayli was so excited to get to "mine" for precious stones...
Kayli could have stayed in the play "grocery store" FOREVER! The museum announced that it was closing, and we had to get back to the hotel for our "happy hour dinner." Did I mention that as part of the hotel's happy hour, they served fried chicken fingers, hotdogs on buns, macaroni and cheese, fresh veggies with dip, nachos and cheese dip, and a few other appetizers that changed by the day. It was the GREATEST deal ever! Tonight, we took our snacks and drinks back to our room so we could watch all the "action" while sitting next to our windows...
AHhhhhhhh....
