The Packing Has Begun!

Trying to pack for a trip is futile when little Miss "Wow, I see that outfit you just packed and I really want to wear it, and I see that toy you just packed but I really want to play with it and oh, mom can we open those cookies and just eat one pleeease?..." is helping me (not) accomplish the task. So, I pulled out a little suitcase and told Kayli that I needed her to go in her room and pack her suitcase for the lake. I thought this would "buy me" some time to actually do some packing but then of course it just turned into my afternoon entertainment! See videos below:

and, MORE packing...

All in all I can see that Kayli has her priorities straight:

1) A couple of pretty dresses

2) A whole lot of toys. You can never bring too many toys!!!

All in the Name of Motherhood; Brave Mom Puts Worm on Hook!

Kayli has been dying to try out "real fishing", so today was the day! I figured it would be easiest to attempt this at the D Rose Farm, where you pay $3.00 and you get a bucket of worms (4 long skinny, wiggly ones) and the use of an old fashioned cane fishing pole. Sounds like fun, huh? Yeah, all except for the fact that I had to put these dang worms on the hook!!! Ohhh, the things we do in the name of motherhood!

Check out the video below for evidence of my bravery:

Problem was, that these smartie fish knew just how to get these worms off the hook without getting caught!!! So...
we moved on to some other fun stuff; a pony ride, play in the sand, feeding the goats. Kayli loved having a little friend, baby Lily, here with us, to play with, and baby Lily loved having a big 4 year old here to entertain and baffle her!

A fun time was had by all!

Compliments

This kid just cracks me up! After coming home from gymnastics, I told Kayli that we needed to go to the grocery store, and she needed to change out of her leotard. So, a few minutes later she comes back wearing one of her "princess costumes". "How 'bout this mom?" "Can I wear this to the store?" Wouldn't be the first time, and probably won't be the last, I think, so I smile and say "Sure". As we are getting into the car, Kayli says "Everyone will think I'm a princess, right mom?" Oh, yes, Kayli. Someone will probably say "What a beautiful princess." Then Kayli says to me "And mom, what do we say when someone tells us something nice?" I respond with "You tell me Kayli". So she says "Let's practice mom. You say something nice to me." "Oh, ok, great idea" I say. So I say "You sure look beautiful in that princess dress."
A broad smile spreads across her face, she performs a grand curtsy, and says "Ohhh? Weeeell, it's myyyy pleasure!"

After I finished laughing, we talked about OTHER ways a person might respond to a compliment... Too funny!

Happy 4th!

What a fun, weekend it was!

Kayli and I picked up Grandpa and brought him to Laura and Mickey's for a pool party, cookout, and fireworks.

Laura and Mickey's dogs were pretty nervous about all the cracks and pops and booms, poor babies...

Kayli played with cousin Anna in the pool, then as we ate, she kept announcing to me "I know I'm really gonna like these fireworks!" as she tried to talk herself into it. When the fireworks "show" actually started, she lasted about 5 minutes, then headed indoors. Then, she was "too lonely" inside so she came looking for someone to hold her. Our good friend Janet offered to hold Kayli and Kayli fell sound asleep in her arms while the fireworks boomed around them!

Check out the video of Kayli and Anna having a blast, jumping off the diving board! They're pretending to be dogs or frogs or something like that.

On Sunday we had more fun, as we headed out to a local lake to help Eileen and Gary "break in" their new boat!

And, finally back to cousin Anna's for some outdoor freeplay.

You will see in the video below, how much fun they are having with Anna's little car. Well, shortly after taking this video clip, I am sitting on the porch, the girls are out of sight (not a good thing) and I hear a bump, bump, bumpety bump, and lots of giggling and laughing. I walked around the side of the garage, following the noise, and I see that Anna is pushing Kayli down the wooden terraced steps, and Kayli is thrilled with this ride! I stopped Anna just as she was about to continue the "ride" by pushing Kayli down the side of the unterraced steep hill leading down through the densely wooded hillside to the lake! Can't take your eyes off them for a minute!

Underwear

One single word, spoken outloud, can send Kayli into gales of laughter, as seen in the picture below!

I might say "Kayli, what should we have for dinner?" she replies "How 'bout macaronicheese aaaand (appears to be thinking hard) aaaand UNDERWEAR! AHaHaHaHa, AHaHaHa, Yuck Yuck Yuck, then, Hey Mom, how 'bout some strawberries ummm, wearing UNDERWEAR! AAAAhahahah!"
Nope,there's nothing like 4-year-old humor!
